Staff of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) have made a voluntary donation of GH¢800,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, in support of the Fund’s mandate to improve access to critical medical care.

The cheque was presented on behalf of NHIA staff by the Authority’s Chief Executive, Victor Asare Bampoe, at a brief ceremony held at the offices of the Fund in Accra.

Speaking at the presentation, Dr. Bampoe explained that the donation reflects the collective commitment of NHIA staff to the vision behind the establishment of the Fund. He noted that the contribution was made voluntarily, driven by a shared belief in the importance of the initiative.

“We believe in the vision of the President in setting up this Fund. It is something we must support, and we are proud of the work being done at the Ghana Medical Trust Fund,” he said.

“Staff of NHIA decided, of their own volition, to come together to contribute their widow’s mite in support of this noble effort.”

Appreciation for Continued Support

Receiving the cheque, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko Opoku, expressed deep appreciation to the NHIA for its sustained support since the Fund was established.

She highlighted the range of assistance provided by the Authority over the years, including technical expertise, human resource support, and financial contributions, noting that these inputs have been critical to the Fund’s progress.

“We want to appreciate you this morning and let you know that your efforts have brought us this far. We are confident that your continued support will push us to even greater heights,” she said.

Ms. Darko Opoku added that the achievements of the Fund would not have been possible without the NHIA’s consistent backing, and expressed hope for an even stronger partnership between the two institutions in the years ahead.

“We are because you are, and we are very grateful,” she stated.

NHIA Delegation

Dr. Bampoe was accompanied by members of the NHIA’s Executive Management, including the Deputy CEO in charge of Administration and Human Resource, Mr. Raphael Segkpeb; the Deputy CEO in charge of Finance and Investment, Ms. Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri; the Director of Administration, Mr. Raymond Avinu; the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah; and the Director of Human Resource, Ms. Auch Angela Dedenamo.
