Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has officially been sworn in as Ghana’s Minister of Health by President John Dramani Mahama, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the country’s healthcare system. The ceremony at Jubilee House followed Akandoh’s successful parliamentary vetting and signals the Mahama administration’s commitment to swift, experienced leadership in this critical sector.

Akandoh, the Member of Parliament for Juaboso and former Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, steps into the role at a time when Ghana’s health system faces both significant challenges and opportunities.

During the swearing-in, President Mahama acknowledged the complexity of the health sector and the pressing need for resilience. “Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh goes to the Ministry of Health, and it will be your duty to supervise a health sector plagued by numerous complex challenges with regards to personnel and health facilities, but also in dealing with any possible pandemics like COVID-19,” Mahama said. “You therefore have the task of proofing all Ghanaians against the effects of such diseases and ensuring that our health system is robust and resilient to extend such crises.”

In a Facebook post, Akandoh expressed gratitude to President Mahama, his family, friends, and supporters. “I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to serve and contribute to ensuring the well-being and quality healthcare for all Ghanaians. Your unwavering support has been invaluable, and I look forward to working together to make a lasting positive impact on the health of our nation.”
