The Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives is set to hold its 4th Annual General Meeting and 2nd scientific conference in Accra.

The year’s conference is under the theme “Maximizing technology in accelerating Universal Health Coverage; the role of nursing and midwifery in the era of specialization”. It will take place at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Science between 6th – 10th October 2019.

Expected to give the key note address at the opening is the paramount chief of the Akwamu state, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, with the Minister of Health, Mr Agyemang Manu, as the special guest of the occasion.

According to the college, there will be special scientific sessions and presentations that will generate interactive panel discussions that will meet the needs of all nursing and midwifery groups.

The 4th AGSM is expected to empower participants with skills in innovation and technology use towards the achievement of the Universal Health coverage; and advocate for an enabling environment for integration of ICT into nursing and midwifery practice across the various levels of the healthcare system.

Graduation of New Specialists and Associates

The 4th AGSM will witness the passing out of thirty three nurse and midwife specialists and over seventy associates of the college.

Some of the nursing specialties include paediatrics, Accident and Emergency (A&E), Palliative nursing, neuroscience, oncology, haematology, Neonatal Intensive Care and women’s health.

The Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM) is a body corporate with perpetual succession established by the provisions of the Specialist health training and plant medicine research act 2011, part three (act 833).

It’s Mandate includes;

  • Promote specialist education in nursing, midwifery and related disciplines
  • Promote continuous professional development in nursing, midwifery and related disciplines
  • Promote postgraduate nursing, midwifery and related disciplines for the College
  • Contribute to the formulation of policies to improve health outcomes and public health generally.
