Director-General of the West African Health Organization (WAHO), Dr Xavier Crespin will begin a five-day visit to Cape Verde on Monday [13th February,2017].
He will be received by the Prime Minister, Dr. Ulisses Correia e Silva, and hold a working meeting with the Minister of Health and Social Security, Dr. Arlindo do Rosário.
Dr Crespin is expected to participate in a conference on the subject of “Investments in Health, Health Security and Economic Development: Contributions to the Tourism sector “, to be held on February 14, 2017 and further complete the agenda in the capital and on the islands of S. Vicente and Santo Antão, accompanied by a delegation of local WAHO officials.
He is also expected to familiarize with some key health institutions such as the WHO, HAN, Laboratory of Virology, INSP. He will also tour some hospitals and Health Offices of S. Vicente and of the three counties of Sto. Antão, Porto Novo, Pául and Ribeira Grande.
As a regional body tasked to support the strengthening of health services and infrastructures of member states, Dr Crespin will also meet with different services and partners of the Ministry of Health and Social Security MSS to learn about the health situation of Cape Verde.
The visit will serve the Ministry of Health and Social Security and WAHO an opportunity to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding towards improving health security and the production of quality medicines including issues of pharmaceutical regulation and control of quality in the country.
