10 Teethlicious 2017 Goals that You should actually Do


Its 2017, every new year some of us make new year resolutions and goals. A New Year’s resolution is a decision to do or not do something in order to accomplish a personal goal or break a habit. It comes at a time when people look back at the past year and make an effort to improve themselves as the new year begins, the common ones are to  read the whole Bible in one year, lose weight, get better organized, fall in love and to make more & spend less money.

This year we are going to add “Be Teethlicious” to the list of goals. Teethlicious actually means having teeth that are healthy, desirable and extremely attractive. (YES I totally formed it.)

Here are 10 Teethlicious 2017 Goals that You should actually Do

  1. Change your toothbrush

    Let that be a New Year gift to your mouth. Give your teeth, tongue and gums the opportunity to start the year with new instruments around them and promise them new instruments every 3 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.


      2. Use a soft or medium bristled toothbrush.

Check the pack for the label. Avoid the hard bristled tooth brush except you are a heavy tobacco smoker and you get stains on teeth and you already know the side effects of tobacco smoking so you might add that to your new year resolution.  Avoid brushing with too much pressure or soon you will brush your gums away, exposing the tooth and invite sensitivity to cold, hot fluids and sugary substances. When you know better, you do better.

         3. Apply the 2-minute rule of brushing teeth and Brush twice daily:

Spend minimum of 2 minutes brushing your teeth. It is NOT a rehearsed speed drill of brush front teeth, top of back teeth, brush tongue, spit and you’re done. Actually let all 32 teeth or what is left to all feel the touch of the toothbrush anointing every morning, don’t neglect anyone or soon they will start crying with pain.  Brush twice daily actually do it, not just telling your dentist you do it when we can clearly see the evidence you don’t do it. 4. Try different flavors of toothpaste.

I know it’s easy to stick to the familiar, for many years the only flavor choice were mint and perhaps peppermint or spearmint. But these days, toothpaste come in spicy flavors like fennel or cinnamon-clove or even in fruit flavors such as apricot or peach. Exotic flavors like mint chocolate trek, vanilla mint spark, lime spearmint zest, aloe,  eucalyptus mint, herbal. Other bizarre I-am-not-making-it-up flavors like salt, cupcake, bacon, coca cola, blueberry, pumpkin pudding, Fuji apple, Japanese plum, charcoal and monkey banana. 5. Swish and swallow.

After taking sugary foods, drinks and candies you can do this trick of swishing water around in your mouth for as long as possible, gargle and swallow. Repeat at least 2 times to reduce the substrate for the bacteria to act on.


6. Stop late night snacking-

The night shift bacteria in your mouth will have an all-night party with your teeth as the dance-floor and you know what happens the morning after, every where is messy and damages have taken place. Plus your body will take the calories from snacks and store as fat anyway. #teamhealthy #fitfam2017caries


7. Floss between your teeth more often.

After the “To Floss or Not To Floss” drama. This still finds its way in 2017 new year resolutions, Yes because things will still get stuck between teeth. Floss at least once a day to help remove plaque from the areas between your teeth where toothbrush can’t reach. Once upon a time we used tooth picks to remove substances stuck between our teeth, but floss (not just any thread oh) is better. Ladies this should be like a handkerchief and a must have in your hand bag.




8. No matter your age, go to the dentist:

See a dentist, at least twice this year for scaling and polishing. Your toothbrush can’t remove the yellow, greenish hard substances stuck behind and around your teeth called calculus, a dentist or dental hygienist can. Don’t wait until there is pain. 9. Don’t procrastinate your dental appointment:

Last year you said this year. 2017 has come, its time to go for check up and seek treatment for your carious or fractured or missing or maligned teeth. Stop using school, work or absence of pain as excuse to skip your dental appointments. A stitch in time saves nine. A word is enough for the wise.


10. Do more of what you enjoy doing and smile while doing it:

Whatever you find your hands to do, do it with joy and show your gorgeous teeth and the Lord will bless the work of your hands.
